Pick your vibe
First, let's figure out what kind of song we're making. Think about a style you like—maybe '90s grunge' or 'tropical house'—and the mood you're going for. Is it a high-energy workout song or a cozy coffee-shop ballad? Being specific here helps the AI understand the instruments and energy you want. For example, 'acoustic folk with a harmonica' gives a much better result than just 'a sad song.'
Try to focus on a single story or memory. Instead of a general song about 'summer,' try 'a nostalgic indie pop song about a last-day-of-school bonfire.'

Write your lyrics
You can let Suno AI write the lyrics for you, but for a truly personal touch, we’ll use Claude. We want to give the song a clear flow, so we’ll use 'markers' like [Verse] and [Chorus]. This tells the AI exactly when to change the melody or bring in more energy. Just copy the prompt below and paste it into Claude to get your lyrics started.

Bring the music to life
Okay, now head over to Suno AI and click the 'Create' button on the left. Look for a switch at the top that says 'Custom' and flip it on. This gives you two big boxes. Paste your lyrics into the top box. In the 'Style of Music' box, type in the genre and mood we picked in step one. Make sure the model is set to the latest version (like v4.5) for the best sound quality. Hit 'Create' and you'll see two different versions of your song start to build!
Include vocal details in your style prompt, like 'raspy male vocals' or 'breathy female vocals,' to get exactly the voice you want.

Fine-tune and finish
Give both versions a listen! If you love one but want it to be longer, click the three dots (...) and choose 'Extend.' This lets you add more verses or a big finish. If there's just one small part of the lyrics that sounds funny, look for the 'Replace Section' tool—it lets you fix just that one spot without re-doing the whole song. When it sounds perfect, click 'Download' to save it as an audio file or a video with the lyrics shown on screen.
If you're using the latest Pro version, you can even export 'Stems' to get the vocals and instruments as separate files for editing.
